    Large spreadsheet SO SLOW!

    Hello,

    I manage an inventory spreadsheet for a large company. The spreadsheet consists of no graphics or images, just text. Basically we just enter inventory and information about that inventory in separate rows / columns (there are 4528 rows and ~ 10 columns)

    As expected, this spreadsheet is a joke to manage. When simply typing a new item in, it can have a 10+ second delay for every word.

    I'm not as skilled in excel, so I'm wondering if anyone here has any clever suggestions to fix this?

    you can try to put the countoptions on manual.

    formula => countoptions => manual
    Notice my main language is not English.

    That is not what I would call a large spreadsheet. I use some at work that have 300k rows of data and many many columns yet have nothing near a 10 second lag.

    I think we would need details of the sort of formulas you have included. Is it linked to anything else? Is there excessive conditional formatting?

    There is an "excess format cleaner" and other tools built into Excel 2013 that may help in getting your workbook to behave better. (be quicker)

    Changing the countoptions to manual seems to have done the trick... Can I ask what exactly this does?

    Thank you so much.

    Excel counts all formula's after a enter. To put the countoptions on manual, it will not automatic counts all options.

    Probably there are formula's in your file, which will count the whole columns (e.g. A:A).

    This will slow down the performance of your file.
