Post Show selected data on scatter

    Hi,

I know this is likely to have been answered many times but I still struggle to find a straight forward answer.

Essentially I have 3 columns of data. (for sake of example)

    Town Shops Population
    Poole 3 10000
    Drast 13 13500
    Uist 2 3000

If I was to plot Shops vs Population on a scatter it would offer me the correlation. However, if I wanted to know what point on the scatter graph was which location seems to be impossible (UNLESS - I manually upload the data as different data points - completely impossible when making multiple graphs with many thousand data points).

Essentially I have many data points and it would be nice to click on an outlier and find out what data point this is by referencing back to the original data.

Not sure if this makes sense but its been puzzling me for a while.

    Kind regards
    Alistair

You could use VBA and chart events but in order to identify a single point you would need to click it twice.

You could attempt to use mouse move/down event but the xy screen values do not directly related to the chart data points

Andy - I like the sound of the double clicking on points. Can you expand on this? Im not familiar with VBA im afraid.

Crooza - Thanks for showing me the macro. Macro's are slightly out of my ability so was not able to use it. Instead opted for a manual "x-y labeling" tool. It is very basic but it does the job required.

    Thanks for your help.
