Sorting dates, some in 18th century

I have a list of over 700 scanned photographs which have been marked with the date when they would have been taken/created. Some of these dates are only the year, some have the year and month and some have year, month and day. Some of these photographs were taken before 1900. When I sort the sheet, all the year only dates are sorted in chronological order, then the full dates and finally the 18th century dates.
Is it possible to sort them fully in chronological order? i.e. oldest at top.
