    Conditional Formatting Question

I know this has to be simple but for the life of me I can't figure it out today. I want a simple conditional format to check a cell and if the value is equal change the row colour to the fill colour selected. Can someple please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I have a testfile attached with an example for Completed and Hold that should colour fill Green for Complete, Yellow for Hold.

    Re: Conditional Formatting Question

First delete the rules you have. Then

    Select A2:F7, Conditional formatting>New Rule>Use Formula......
    =$E2="Complete" format as Green
    Conditional Formatting>New Rule>Use Formula
    =$E2= "Hold" format as yellow

When working with Conditional formatting, fill in cell references as you would for the first cell in your range. Anchor any specific columns (i.e $E), and don't anchor things you want to be relative (i.e. row 2).
    does that make sense?

substitute commas with semi-colons if your region settings requires

    Re: Conditional Formatting Question

Conditional Formatting > New Rule > Format only cells that contain > On the furthest left drop down, the default is "Cell Value". Select "Specific Text" instead. I think that's where you were having a problem. I re-attached your example. Is that what you were looking for?

    Re: Conditional Formatting Question

This will work fine for just one cell however I would like that entire row to be highlighted according to that drop down choice.

Thx for taking time to look and respond!

Highlight the entire range you need the CF applied to - or adjust it to that range in the Applies To dropdown

    Re: Conditional Formatting Question

I think I have this working now.

In the formula I have =$E1="Complete" and then applies to is: =$A:$G

I did see however this formula would change and make the $E1 goto some random # so I had to reapply. It seems now to have stuck so I will keep an eye on it.
