How to create a macro that 'activates' a filter on another sheet.

I want to create a macro that somehow lets me use a filter on another worksheet. I think an ideal method would be to have a button which activates the filter in a macro but i am not sure how i'd go about this.

What do you mean by "activates"?
Will there be set criteria for the filter and the button is simply switching this filter on/off?

I knew i explained that awfully...
Anyways basically when the button is pressed, i'd like a text box or something like that to pop-up in which you can enter the data you want the filter to change to, on the other worksheet.

How many columns are you looking at for this and are there set options for each or would you need that to be dynamic?

It should only effect one filter on my original worksheet, so just the 1 column (A:A), and can you explain what you mean by dynamic?

OK, will there be a set of possible filters such as A, B, C or D, or would this list need to be depended on what values are in column A at any given time, i.e. one day there could be an F or Z or a 1?

Would you need to be able to filter to more than one of the possible values at a time or would it only ever be one of them?

What I'm hinting at with that is, if you need to have full filtering functionality with multiple options and operators then you may be making things more complicated for yourself than you need.
What's the reason for wanting to filter from another sheet and not from the actual sheet?
