Filter two data sets my matching indexes

    Hello Everyone,

I have a set of data which looks like:

Where columns A and B are one data set and C and D are another. A and C are the indexes. I would like to filter the second set of data such that the indexes of both sets match. so the result would look something like:

    Hope this makes sense!

    Cheers!

    Hey QP,

This looks like and Advanced Filter problem to me. First put headers on your data in Row 1. Make the data of the Advanced Filter Columns C and D. Make the Criteria range column A and output the result to F. You could filter in place but then it hides rows. See my example:

You can also try this macro-
Please Login or Register to view this content.
It uses Column E as a rough column for the macro. Make sure column E is of no purpose. If it is then we can change it to any other column.
Check attached for an example.advanced filter.xlsm

Re: Filter two data sets my matching indexes

    Hi MarvinP,

Your solution looks great! However I am struggling to implement it! I go Data->Sort & Filter->Advanced->Select Columns C and D for "List Range" so $D:$E and then for "Criteria Range" I select column A, so $A:$A.

However nothing seems to happen! I am obviously doing something wrong, any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Re: Filter two data sets my matching indexes

Clear the results area first. F:G -> Clear Contents. Then instead of selecting the entire column, just select the range with data. This is most important in the criteria range of column A. Also, did you put headers on your columns? The titles of the columns for the data and criteria need to be spelled exactly the same. If you have data that grows or shrinks then using a few Named Ranges may make your work easier. See the attached where I do this for a problem with a variable dropdown list. This has vba code that does the advanced filter like you want with named ranges.
