help with averageifs formula

Friends,

I seem to be goofing up somewhere with the formula... Can someone help me?

I am not able to attach a sample worksheet, hence giving the data....

A2:A8 have names of children (a,b,c,d,e,f,g)
B1:H1 have dates (9/1/14, 9/2/14, 9/3/14, 9/4/14, 9/5/14, 9/6/14, 9/7/14)
B2:H8 have weight values of a - g children

i want average of the following for dates greater 8/31/14 but less than 9/4/14 and for dates greater 9/3/14 but less than 9/8/14

Can someone please help?

=AVERAGEIFS($B$3:$H$3,$B$2:$H$2,">"&K3,$B$2:$H$2,"<"&L3)

K3 = 31/Aug/2014
L3 = 04/Sep/2014

However, I am looking for specific names also to be one of the parameters....

Continuing from the above, suppose I want it for child B (name in cell A3) and child D (name in cell A5)... how will the formula change?

Averageif(s) doesn't works with mixed array.
If names are unique and placed row-wise, you don't need it be included in the formula.

Yes sure thing, just need to include the criteria and range:
=AVERAGEIFS($B3:$H3,$B3:$H3,">"&0,$B$2:$H$2,">"&K3,$B$2:$H$2,"<"&L3)
