Double Click and Paste stopped working

I don't know what has happened but yesterday I was able to select multiple cells and then double click into a cell and paste the cell contents into a single cell. Today when I double click the new cell after copying multiple cells the selection frame disappears and there is no data to paste. What have I done!!

Update: I can view the clipboard, then double click into the cell, then go to the clipboard and select paste and it works that way, but that is a lot more steps....not sure why this would do that.
