Automatic Sr No and 1a, 1b when column value repeat

I want to give automatic sr no 1 2 3 in column a and 1a,1b when value repeat in column c I attached the same file

In column A. It appears from the pattern that A18 and A19 should both = 16? If so then the balance of column A Sr. No numbers must be 1 less than in the example?

Assuming that to be true try this formula in A3 filled down.

=IF(COUNTIF($C$3:$C3,$C3)<=1,MAX($A$2:$A2)+1,MAX($A$2:$A2))

It appears hemesh has solved column B alpha parts as it appends the alphas to the numbers in column A.

Edit Have attached hemesh's file with my formula in column A. They appear to work together.
