Display initials from list when name from corresponding list is selected from dropdown

Hi, wondering how to display initials from a list of employees initials when their names are selected in the dropdown menu. For example, A1 will give me a dropdown for names from a list on sheet two, ie. b4-b8. I want A1 to show the initials that are listed on sheet two c4-c8. Some employees have the same initials, so their cells are coloured differently, it is important that the colour changes accordingly aswell. PLEASE HELP.

    Thanks, Sam

Please attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is enough data to demonstrate your need. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary. Remember to remove ALL confidential information first!!!

Click on GO ADVANCED and use the paperclip icon to open the upload window.

    Absolute final schedule.xlsm

So on sheet one, you need to select the name of employee. This corresponds on 'DB' to their adjacent initial, which has a colour.
I need sheet one to present the COLOURED initial when the name is clicked. Furthermore, the drop down menu only shows the first few
letters of the name because the cells are so small, is their anyway to see the full name? Thanks

Others may correct me... but I don't think that this is possible, without VBA. What you select in the data validation box is what you get. You could then use a vlookup to return the abbreviation in another cell and (I'm fairly sure) use conditional formatting to return the colour, too.

I'm not into VBA, myself. So, I can't help, sorry. A non VBA way would be two have two sheets; one with wider columns, where you see and enter the full names and a second sheet that pulls over the initials and sets up the shading.
