Trying to open spreadsheet on mew windows connect tablet

    Hi,

I have recently purchased a windows connect tablet with office programs installed. I have sent a spreadsheet from my laptop to the tablet so I can do basic editing and updating on their rather than get the laptop out all the time.

On trying to open the spreadsheet on the tablet, it comes up with an error message "cannot open spreadsheet due to not supporting active x controls" or something like that. I've done some quick research to see if I could resolve but no luck, from what I can see I believe it may have something to do with the macros built into the spreadsheet, so I tried copying a version and deleting all macros but still wouldn't work.

Can't work out what else to do, please could someone help as it was one of the main reasons of buying the tablet so will be annoying if can't use it for the basic editing of the spreadsheets. I'm using excel 2002 on my laptop in case you need to know. Hopefully there is a way around it.

I appreciate your help in advance.

    Thanks.
    Neil.

Are there any buttons, dropdowns etc. on your spreadsheet? If so, that might be causing the problem as ActiveX sometimes refers to those types of controls.

Yes I do have a few command buttons but I thought by deleting the macro relating to them that should solve it but do I need to delete the physical button?

It's a possibility that you may have to. Even though the macro has been deleted, the command buttons are still ActiveX controls, even though there isn't any code "controlling" them. You might have discovered one of the many reasons for not using ActiveX controls. If at all possible, stay away from them and use Form Control buttons instead.

    Delete them and try?

Which version of Office is on the tablet? If it is Office 365, if is my understanding that some "regular" excel functions dont work on 365.

If I'm honest I hadn't realised I had used active x, I thought I was just using standard control buttons. How do I do that then?

Its office mobile but I only want it to do basic inputting weekly, so it should be more than up to the task.

I'm not sure about how to do it in 2003, but in 2007 & 2010 is as follows....
Click the dropdown for the Quick Access Toolbar, then More Commands.
Click the dropdown for Choose commands from, select All Commands then look through the list. The controls will have either (ActiveX Control) or (Form Control) next to them.

Re: Trying to open spreadsheet on mew windows connect tablet

not looking good as I have tried deleting all the macros again and this time also deleted the actual buttons on the sheet but it still doesnt work. It says can't open workbooks with active x controls. I now have no idea what is causing it.

Is the workbook small enough to attach it here, after desensitizing of course.

It is only a few kb. Why would I need to post it here, do you have an idea?

Just wanted to see the code and buttons to see if I would have the same problem.......kind of try to narrow down the problem.

There'll be an activex control on a worksheet that you've missed, if you post the workbook we should be able to find it
