Open With... Excel not an option for an Access file?

I just installed Office 2016 last week (I shouldn't have - I should have stuck with 2013 or 2010) and now when I go to open an Access file, I have to open Excel first and than browse to the file and open it. Before Office 2016, I could just right click on the file and use Open With... and set Excel as my default program to open Access files.

I have even browsed to the Excel exe file from Open With... (in Program Files (x86)>Microsoft Office>root>Office16>Excel) and tried to select it as the default program and it won't even select it (Word is in the list of programs to open the Access file but not Excel).

Is there a new way to do this with office 16? I am running Win 2007.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Perhaps "Data" tab -> "Get External Data" and click on "From Access"

Alf - that isn't my best solution. Although I could rename the file each week so it is the same, that is not optimal in my situation. I did speak with Microsoft Support (more like did an online chat with them) and they will be fixing the problem in the next update (if I am to believe them). They said they would also fix the problem where the Acrobat tab doesn't show up even though the Add-In is active. Until then, this will work:

From the CMD window type: assoc .mdb=Excel.Sheet.12

Then do a reboot. Then, when you right click on the .mdb file, Excel will be one of the options to set as the default to open the file.

I hope they meant what they said and they really do make an update to fix the problem.

I uninstalled 2016 and went back to 2013. There is no reason to suffer through all of the problems with this version when I don't have to.

I can wait until it becomes stable and behaves as it should. Until then, the DVD will be sitting on my bookshelf collecting dust.
