    SHORT CUTS in Excel 2010

    Hello everyone.
This is my first post in his forum, so here goes: How can I create a desk top short cut which will open a specific/nominated file in Excel10? So far everything I have tried always opens Excel leaving me to click on "files" then locate the desired file and then open it. Your help will be much appreciated

    Regards Terryz

    ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

You can right click on your file and create a shortcut, then move the shortcut to the desktop.

Or drag the file with the Ctrl and Shift keys pressed to the desktop, which will do the same thing.

Re: SHORT CUTS in Excel 2010

    Welcome to the forum.

Open the folder containing the file you want (not maximised, so you can see some of the desktop), right-click and drag the file to the desktop, then select 'Create shortcuts here' on the menu that appears. Clicking that should then open the file directly. If this doesn't work, check that you can open the file by clicking directly on the file itself (not a shortcut). If not, then your 'file association' for .xlsx, etc files need fixing - right-click a .xlsx file and select 'Open With' then choose to open with Excel and make sure the 'Always use this program to open these types of file' is ticked' (that's the process on Windows 7 - it may be slightly different on Win8/Win10 - search for something like 'how to open specific file type' for help).

    Hope that helps.

If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

Re: SHORT CUTS in Excel 2010

    Hello to my three respondents.

Many thanks to you all for your replies. However ,try as I might, I have not succeeded. I have realised that all of my the files are located in the One-drive cloud, could this be the problem?

My thanks to you all once again.
    Terron.
