I would like the cell be filled with green colour if another cell value is 3, how to write the fomula ? eg, cell A1 will be filled with green colour if cell A2=3 ? Or A1 wording will change to red colour if A2=3 ?
Thks in advance.

Hi,
place the curson in a1 , go to conditional formatting, new rule, use a formula to,
and type =a2=3 ,format , fill color as you like, change font as you like.
Nadarajan
Thks for the reply, actually I want to make the cell A2 to be fill with green colour if the Cell A3=3 and not physically go to the cell and make it fill with green colour. What I want is to write a fomula at A2 to check if A3 is equal to 3
Thks in advance.
oh, sorry, I get it. Thks a million
sorry, is me again, however, after doing all this, it doesn't show formula when I click at A1 although when I put A3=3 and A1 indeed change to green, so exactly if I want to write the formula, how to write ?
Thks again in advance.
PCLUM
I have attached a file called test.xls
And it has 2 samples of Conditional Forrmatting.
If you put your cursor on Cell A1 and the click on Conditional Formatting, Manage Rules,
to the left of the GREEN box you will see the formula, a2=3
likewise if you click on Cell A3 you follow the formentioned steps you will see the formula
A3=2.

thks a lot , will try it.
Hi, after trying to click the manage rules, it only show the condition" if" but never show how to use word or formula to "fill the cell with color"?
Conditional formats don't display in the usual formula bar, for three reasons - it's a format (like font size etc which don't display in there, not a formula (in the sense of =sum(a:a) being a formula, which would affect the value displayed) 2nd, because they only apply under certain conditions, and third, you want to be able to use the cell in the way you normally would AS WELL as the conditional format, and if it displayed, you wouldn't be able to.
To view the conditional format info, click the cell you want, go to conditional formatting on the home tab, click manage rules.
This displays all existing conditional formats for the selected cell, you can have as many as you like.
To create a new one, Nadarajan's instructions do the job.
Thks for your explanation.
