Excel will not open a file when double clicked after Win 10 installed.

I apologize if this has been posted before.
With Win 7 I used to be able to open files by double clicking on the file. Since I installed Win 10, it works for Word 2013 but not Excel 2013. I tried going through my setting and it is checked for double-click to open files, but doesn't help.
Excel also does not want to open an Excel file from an email attachment. The only way I can open the file is to save the file first to Documents, Open Excel to a blank page and then search for the file, then open the file. I must be missing some setting. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi, welcome to the forum.

I don't have Win10, but it sounds like the file association for Excel has been lost/corrupted. If it works the same as Win7, try this: right-click on a file you know is an Excel file and choose 'Open With', choose Excel from the recommended programs then tick the box labelled 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.

(If Excel doesn't appear as a recommended program, use the 'Browse' button to find the program (.exe) file. For my Excel 2010, it's in this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\Excel.exe - I assume it'll be something at least similar for Win10 & Excel 2013)

    Hope that helps...

If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.

Find in Windows Explorer (File Explorer) an Excel file that won't open by double clicking. Right click on the file and choose Open With. In the dialogue box choose Excel and check Always use this App to Open...

    or

Click on the Windows symbol or Windows Button on the keyboard. Click on Settings, Click on System Display, notifications, apps, power. Click on Default Apps. Click on Choose Default Apps by File Type. Scroll down the list until you get to the Excel file extensions. Click on the right panel next to the extensions and choose Excel from the list of Apps given.
