Numbers not calculating or summing

Hi, see enclosed file. For some reason the numbers in this file, which i got from a word document just cut and pasted into excel, when i try to do any "MATH" associated with these numbers nothing works.

Can someone help?

You have a non-breaking space character (code 160) at the end of each entry in column A, so those values are treated as text. You can replace them all in one operation, as follows:

Highlight column A
CTRL-H (Find & Replace)
Find what: ALT-0160
Replace with: leave blank
Click Replace All

where ALT-0160 means to hold down the ALT key and type the numbers 0160 on the numeric keypad.

For some reason when i hold down the alt key and press numbers on my laptop i just hear a bell sound.......nothing actually gets typed........

ok got it to work based on your comment.........i went into cell A1...........copied the last character then went to find-replace, pasted the last character and replaced with nothing.......that worked...........thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, that's what I actually did, but it's easier to describe by saying ALT-0160.

Laptops don't usually have a separate numeric keypad, so it's difficult to do it that way on a laptop.
