extracting data without using delimiter

hi guys i thought i had this wrapped but sadly not

in cell d2 i have 9-6
in cell aa2 i need the 9 and
in cell ab2 i need the 6

i previously used text to columns and a delimiter of -

however as i update this spreadsheet daily i wouldlike it to be done by formula instead
ie tomorrowcell d2 might be 10-7
