How can I do this? I have some workbooks only using a small portion of the sheet and would like to be able to do this

Try conditional formatting.
But wont I have to mark all cells? Dont think M$ marked all the cells to do this?
Suppose you are only using columns A to F - then you can hide all the columns from G across in one operation. Click on the G that identifies the column, then hold down the <shift> key and press the <end> key once followed by the <right-arrow> key. Then right-click on the selected area and choose Hide.
You can do a similar thing for the rows below your last-used row.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, but I never said anything about wanting to hide them?
Something like this??

English is not my native language sorry for errors
Please correct me if I'm completely wrong
No. Like this template.Dagligt arbejdsskema1.xlsx
Which ranges do you mean?
Hi try this sheet nothing complicated highlighted whole sheet coloured grey then highlighted area required and took shade colour back to white, sheet is protected which would stop use of grey area, no password entered
Or uncheck the gridline option
When you fill a range with a colour, the gridlines disappear unless you have applied borders of a different colour. The sample that you uploaded used a variety of colours and the main background also used a texture which is found by on the Format Cells, Fill. The other possibility is popipipo's suggestion found on the Page Layout tab, Sheet Options.

Hi Newdoverman pleased to hear from you, fully aware of all you say above I seemed to have honed in on greying area which was one of the options "not used white.. greyd... etc.." thanks. George
