Real basic query on linked databases

Hi All.

How can I have a link to a database, at the moment I have the database on an Excel worksheet in the Workbook.
So for every Workbook I complete and save (100 of them now) they all have the same worksheet of the same database, I would think this is a waste of storage space and the files are larger than they need to be.

I think we would need far more info than this.

For instance...
why do you have 100+ files, instead of just 1, containing all your data?
What does your data look like
What exactly are you trying to do....
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Re: Real basic query on linked databases

Each file is a job list for one particular building site.
to get the list of items needed I use dropdown boxes and then a formula gives me the cost in another cell.
The formula is a Vlookup to a Table (my Database of all the items and their costs) when finished I save this file under the Building site folder.

I open up a new file with these lookups and formula's and of course the Database(on Sheet2!) to do another Building site and so on, now a 100 sites.

do I need these 100 files all to contain Sheet 2! that is where the Table/Database is. Or can I have the Vlookup to link to another file so there is only one master Database?

No, you should be able to keep your database in 1 file, and then just reference it from the others
