Really don't even know how to give this a title.

Hi. Forgive me if this question has been posted many times before. I'm a very basic excel user and wouldn't even know how to search the forums for an answer to my question.

I have three columns of data. Column one consists of values that may be repeated many times. Column two is the same, but column one and column two data values will only appear together once. Certain combinations of values in the first two columns will result in a particular value being placed in column three. For example, take the values "x" and "y". Both may appear in both columns numerous times, but they can appear together on the same row only once. When this happens, that row in the third colum gets a value of "z". When this happens, I want "z" to appear in column three in every row where the value of "x" appears in column one.

    Thanks,

    Jerry

If a combination of data in column 1 and column 2 results in a TRUE value in column three, I want all the column 1 values to populate column three regardless of column 2.
