    File extension .excel

Good morning. I am receiving reports from a supplier with the file extension .excel rather than the usual .xls or .xlsx. Although I worked out how to read them on a laptop I can't find a way of reading them on android mobile devices. Can anyone offer a solution to this problem.
My IT people, who may be out of date although I don't think so, have never seen this extension before.

Do you mean a screen shot of the file name, or the whole file?

Rename them to xlsx? Or they may be html, it's difficult to say without a sample

No, the filename is useless, we'd need the file

    I haven't seen this before, either ...

How Excel-savvy is your supplier? How did they generate the extension in the first place? Could it simply be that they have overwritten the xlsx extension?

Sorry to be thick, but how do I do that? The data in the files is commercially sensitive.

    Re: File extension .excel

It is an excel file only... They have named it in that way but the actual extension is in hidden mode.

Just copy paste the below formula in a cell and let us know what result it arrives

    =CELL("filename")

It seems that you opened the file from outlook which is received in email. You may be opened it without saving it in your local drive. Am I right?

It's an excel or html document. Simply try changing the extension and see if it works

To change the extension on an Android device; I'm pretty certain that you'll have to download a suitable App. Google it. There are several choices. Alternatively (as I suggested earlier) contact the source of the sheet and get the m to stop changing the extension!!

I use EXPLORER+ to change the file extension in my android device which you can easily get from play store. Also it is tiny and free.
