Number formatting problem

I have a column of three to six digit whole numbers with a 1000 comma separator. There are no formulas being used on the numbers at all but when I try and enter 46 into a column it shows as

• zero if I have the column data formatted to a number with zero decimal places
• 0.46 if I have the column data formatted to a number with two decimal places
• 0.46 if I have the column data formatted to general

How can I just get it to display as 46 please.

Usually this is because you have the "insert decimal points automatically" setting turned on: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/conten...y-in-exce.html Turn this setting off, and you should then be able to enter 46 normally.

Thanks for that MrShorty. When I go back to work on Monday I will check this out. Thanks for your help and have a great weekend

Edit - I just checked on my home PC and with that box checked the described behaviour exists so that will definitely be my problem at work so thanks again. So much to learn.
