Time format please - excel 2013

Hi, I have a simple spreadsheet that I am copying and pasting data from a series of other sheets. In this one, my data that is being pasted contains a column for Elapsed time in minutes. I need to find a way to convert the text pasted into minutes, not hours, days or years like excel wants to do, no military time, just minutes. I have tried several different ways, formatting custom to [m]:ss, that ends up starting from 1/1/1900 0:00 and getting worse from there. I have tried mm:ss but that is not right either.

I have the sheet attached with a graph that I need as well. On the x-axis the number are not spaced properly and start with 0:00 and then jump to 33 minutes for the next point. I need a scale of about 20 minutes consistent to display properly.

This should be really simple, but time and date with excel is usually not.........time example.xlsx

    This works here.

Select the column, format as NUMBER choose the number of decimal places.

Hi, thank you for replying. I have tried setting the data to number, however that does not help with the graphs and the scale along the x-axis. What I need and cannot figure out is how to get the X to go into 20 minute increments (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100) to display a proper curve; currently it shoots up from 0 then has a straight line to the end. In the graphs I keep creating and cannot get away from the first point is at 0.00 but then jumps immediately to 30.00 or in that range. That was why I thought that a time format was necessary to make the graph understand what was being asked.

I am sorry if my original question was not as obvious as I should have made it. You read and reread it before posting, but now that I look back it could still have been better worded

It looks to me like all you need to do is change your chart type from line to XY scatter.
