Hello,
I am working on an Excel report for work. I've essentially created a template where my coworker can copy and paste data from another program, and Excel will format it correctly. The first column lists individuals' names, while three following columns give dates. I set up color scale formatting for the dates, so if they are past a certain threshold, they turn red; if they are nearing the threshold, they turn orange; and if they are far from the threshold, they are green.
Unfortunately the other program where we house the data has occasional blank lines mixed in with the data we need. My coworker would like me to set up the formatting so that if Column A is blank, the date columns have no special formula--they are just blank with white background. However, if Column A is filled and the date columns are blank, he'd like for the date columns to turn red. I can figure out how to set up conditional formatting for the blanks to turn red, but I'm struggling to find a way to have blanks connected to a blank Column A stay without formatting. I tried adding a rule that relies on this formula for formatting: =$A2="". But if I get it to work, the other blanks stop turning red.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions anyone has! Thanks in advance.
