Ok
What has happened is that you have two instances of excel open.
Each instance of windows works as a completely separate program.
They do not interact.
To avoid this.
Open one excel file.
Then open ever other file using the file open function within excel.

I tried this and it didn't work. I still only have one Excel button on my taskbar. The only time I've managed to have multiple Excel buttons is when I'm opening two files in different versions of Excel, but if it's the same version of Excel, I just get the one button regardless of how many files are open.
