Its well documented that Excel 2013 is quite slow for some people. I'm one of those people and i have tried all of the usual tips for making it faster, like the 'graphics' DWORD in the registry, disabling graphics acceleration, trying in safe mode etc.

The problem that bugs me the most is when you type in a cell and press enter, it takes half a second to move to the cell below.
What i have found is that changing the zoom level to 100% gets rid of this problem. Its not possible for me to have the zoom level on 100% all of the time due to the fact i use a laptop and a desktop with a 27inch monitor, and the report template won't fit on screen.

Normally, the zoom is on 85% which was fine with Excel 2003. I recently upgraded to 2013 as well as purchasing a new laptop. Due to the new ribbon they have added to Office, i zoomed out to 80% to make things look more or less the same as they did on the old laptop. But the performance at 80% was more than twice as bad as it was at 85% which in itself was a lot worse than at 100%.

Now if i use the same excel workbook on my desktop, with the same 80, 85 & 100% zoom levels, the performance problems don't exist.

Why would Excel slow down because of the zoom levels and the screen resolution?
