Giving a point value to different ranks

I am completely new to the excell program when it comes to inserting formulas. I have been able to get most of my questions answered by you tube and these forums. So I am trying to put together spreadsheets for rodeos that I will be hosting. As of right now there is no information/data that is imputed. I am just trying to get formulas situated so when I do type I data it will automatically be ready to go and calculate what I need calculated. So I was able to get my ranking column situated but I need to get my points columns to connect to the rank column. For example 1st place will get 10 points 2nd 9pts etc through 10 place. Then 10 place on will receive just 1 point for participation. This is the first problem I am running into. I already have more questions but this one is the most pressing. Thanks in advance for your help

Assuming you have your rank in column A with a header, and column B will be your points, try this in B2:

=IF(A2>9,1,(11-A2))

Then copy that down through column B.

Wow amazing how simple you just made that I can not thank you enough! Ok moving onto the next hurdle. I don't even know if it's possible but is there anyway to take points that are associated with a contestant and add their daily total and impute on another sure that is tracking points? Does that make sense?

Hm, had trouble following that one. Can you post a sample workbook and further explain what you mean by "impute on another sure that is tracking points?"
