Smile Accounting setting causes slight indent - Why and how can I fix that?

I would like to format the top amount and the total amount, in a column of numbers, with an "accounting" format so that they have the $ sign. I do NOT want the entire column of amounts to have the $ sign. However, when I apply the "accounting" format to the top and bottom (Total) amounts, the amounts get indented slightly to the left. Is there a way around that?

I have never used accounting format. I use currency format, which doesnt indent the number at all. Accounting does some odd things (at least to me): zeros become dashes and negative amounts get parentheses around them. I wouldnt want either of those but I am not an accoutnant

Currency format places the Dollar sign in front of the quantity automaticall, and if you start typing in a general format cell with a $ up front it will change the cell to Currency format.

If you start typing "$- (dollar amount here) it turns the text red and in parentheses.

So the two formats have their differences for the user to decide between...If allignment in the cell is super important to you then I would go with currency and call it a win.

Thanks for your response Miloki. I just discovered that if I use "accounting" in order to get the $ sign aligned far left, and then for all of the other amounts in the column below I select "," in the Number Group, then decrease the decimals by 2 so that I just have rounded numbers, everything aligns nicely on the right. Yeah!!!
