Merging two files into one sheet

    Hi all,

This is my first post here on the forum. Thank you in advance for any help.

long story short... I am looking to merge two .xls databases into one spreadsheet. I would like the process to be repeatable as well.

context: I am working with two separate therapeutic pipeline databases that allow me to export as xls files. They have some different column names and a lot of information. It would save my company a lot of time to be able to merge these two databases by matching important column data across sheets and removing the duplicates. I need to be able to do this over and over, any time I want to use these two databases to provide drug pipeline pulls.

I would love to ideas on best practices and any helpful discussion.

EDIT: The files are attached below in a reply.

    Thank you again,
    Creed

    Hi,

Could you please attach those two files with sample data?

    Regards,
    Alex

    Sure, no problem.

The thing that might be tricky is that there are columns where the data is the same but the names are slightly different between the two files. Also, not every column will be relevant in the end.

Let me know if these do not work.

The formatting comes with the exported file from each web database.

Can you provide some examples of what you're trying to accomplish? It's unclear what data is coming from where and how you'd like to be able to look it up.

    Sure.

Please see the attached files will have for examples of the inputs...

The output should combine the two inputs and result in a simple table that lists

    Drug Name Company Development Status
    Adalimumab AbbVie Marketed
    Brodalumab Amgen Suspended

    Does this help?

I can't find any of those drug names, nor can I find any of the drug names listed on the search results file (e.g., 2B3-101, ABT-414) in the Drug Export file. It's still not clear where this data is coming from. Can you point to specific cells in specific files where the data you want to look up is located?

Re: Merging two files into one sheet

I'm sorry. I feel like I am being very confusing. These were simply examples of what the output was intended to be.

The specific drug names and companies aren't necessarily important.

I would like to merge the two spreadsheets into one by some automated method. I am happy to code this up in VBA if I need to. I am just hoping for some starting ground and direction. Or some ideas if someone has done it before.

The two spreadsheets are example data. I need to be able to take two spreadsheets, similar to the two attached, and output a single spreadsheet that contains the information from both. If this is not clear I can make up some more simple cases and attach those. Let me know if this is necessary.

Re: Merging two files into one sheet

You may want to move this to the VBA forum, but they'll similarly be confused as to how exactly you want the data organized. Merging the two sheets is as simple as copying and pasting. But if you want it organized in a specific manner, additional instructions/examples are likely going to be required.

Okay, thanks. I will try and move it over there, and I will try to make my question more specific and the results I am looking for. Thank you, all, for the help and attempts at helping me figure this out.
