    Tracking changes in Excel

    Hello,

I would like to track the changes in the bottom line totals in excel from the last action whether the last action is the insertion of a new row
or the changing of an existing cell.

So for instance if I insert a copy of a row anywhere in the sheet it will give me the amount the bottom lines have changed from the last bottom lines.

So using the attached file as an example...

If I copied row 7 and inserted it anywhere in the list the amount the bottom lines have changed for Extended list, Budgeted Extended Cost and Total Price will be displayed in the Description header.

Also if I change a value in the list price column the bottom line changes will also update in the description header.

I think the attached file will illustrate what I am trying to achieve.

This might be trivial or this may be impossible in Excel.

    Thanks for any help,

From what I can see, the header amount already reflects the amount in the Grand Total line when you make any changes.
What else are you looking for? The amount of the change?

What I'm looking to achieve is for the the amount the Bottom Lines have changed from the last change, whether its from an inserted line or
a change to an existing unit list cell.

So If I inserted a row that changed the Extended List, Budgeted Extended Cost and Total Price I want those changes to be Reflected in the description Header.

OK, just to ensure I understand you.
If the current grand total for Extended List is $ 380,262.25, and if you make some change that causes the grand total for Extended List to change to $ 390,262.25, then you want the heading line to show $ 10,000.00?

It may be possible, but you need to keep a list of last values (not formula) for those cells. There's a feature I've used once or twice a while ago where a macro is triggered when the value of a specified cell changes. This would then cause the macro to recalc the total, calculate the delta and then update the header with the delta. I'll see if I can figure this out.

That is precisely what I am trying to achieve.

I tried playing around with automatic updates based on worksheet_changes but you end up with a continuous loop because every time you make an update to the sheet it fires the macro again. I don't believe Excel can handle recursive calls.
Best thing I could get was to run a macro after you make the change as in this example.
Make a change and hit Ctrl+Shift+D to have the headers updated.
