    Lightbulb Secondary axis scale

    Hello all!

I would have a question concerning the secondary X axis. Is there any way, that i make it fir the first one? How can I do that? Because I made the reference, so all the values are at the right point, but i cannot set the scale to match the primary axis.

I hope you know a solution. Thanks in advance!

    Re: Secondary axis scale

Isn't the entire point of the dual axis is to make them different? If you want them the same, why not have them on one axis?

    Re: Secondary axis scale

This seems like an odd thing to do but if you want to...

Click in the Secondary Axis, right click and choose Format Axis. Set the Max and Min values to be the same values as the Primary Axis.

    Re: Secondary axis scale

Well thats not really the point.

Unfortunately i cant set a scale by right clicking, can it be its because i use 2007?

The second thing is that I originally wanted to axis because the values were different. I made a pretty bad drawing about what I mean. I just made a mathematical reference range because I cant imagine that I could make it this way.

    Does this make sense?

I doubt it. Since at least 2002 (and probably earlier), right clicking on an axis has allowed you to bring up the "format axis dialog" and, within that dialog, has been fields for entering axis limits and major and minor units.

Unfortunately, it is still not clear to me exactly what you want to do -- exactly what you mean by wanting the secondary axis scale to match the primary axis scale. Your drawing in post 4 does not include any scaling on the primary or secondary axis, so we cannot tell from that exactly what you are looking for. I expect that, one way or another, it will involve going into the format axis dialog(s) and selecting the appropriate values for the axis limits.

I find that selecting the Axis is a bit tricky. If you click on the axis, you will get a box surrounding the axis but to edit the contents, try right clicking with the cursor right on one of the elements within the axis. This should enable the menu that has Format Axis.

I tried every trick, that I could, but still didn't manage. No matter how I try to select it, I can only focus on the axis, and no induvidual elements.

    Re: Secondary axis scale

The individual elements (the values on the axis) are not treated individually. The axis as a complete unit is formatted with upper and lower limits etc.
Do you get a dialogue like this?

    Re: Secondary axis scale

I just tried on a different graph, and I got the dialog box like this, but only if its formatted as date. When I change it to string or select the numbers and put automatic, then the ranges dissapear and I get a different dialogbox. I dont understand... :S

For the y axis I can change anything I like as displayed by you.

Can you upload a graph on a worksheet that is giving you trouble so that we can try and find out the source of the trouble?

    Re: Secondary axis scale

Well, I made it in a new file. Hopefully you can see it. I made 2 graphs now. Without secondary axis. The second one has date, that is something I would wish to see, but with the density of the first one.

    Graph problem.xlsx

I hope you can make a wonder.

    Re: Secondary axis scale

I don't know if this is helpful or not, and maybe I am just biased towards XY scatter charts because that is almost all that I use. I notice that your charts are both line charts (line without markers). Noting that the X data for both series are real numbers, my first thought is if your real intention is to plot these as XY charts rather than line charts. http://peltiertech.com/line-charts-vs-xy-charts/ I note that, by simply changing both series chart type to XY, that the primary and secondary horizontal axes automatically range from 0 to 8, so that the X values for the two series match up numerically. Is this what you have been trying to do all along?
