Managing a waiting list

I have a list of children names with dob

I need to manage numbers in each of three groups - beavers, cubs and scouts

I can vary the age at which they move from one group to another, e.g. move up to beavers at 8 etc

The numbers in each group need to be controlled so they do not get too high

Any idea how we can model this and see the effects of varying age of movement

There is also a waiting list we would like to take children from - but thats probably a second question

Can you post a sample dataset?
Maybe fake the names then I can show you some quick pointers?

So the formulas I used with the exact layout you have is:

D2:

Then you just drag the formulas in D2 and E2 down to the bottom.

the thing i was stuck on was how to how to manage the columns J and K.
also, i would like to alter G3 and G4 and it may not be a whole year number

I found that some of the dates are out of range for your table so the rows affected are blank. Looking at the results that I get, the number of new recruits doesn't match what you have and I am not sure how you are making the calculations in that area.

Seeing that you indicate that you have Excel 2010, I saved to that version because the function that I used was not available for the XLS version.
