    Cool 2 level Data Validation

    Hello Guys & Girls,

My apologies if this has been asked/answered already. I cannot find a simple working solution. I use Google Spreadsheets primarily and I believe it inherits most of the excel functions.

Can anyone please explain how to set 2 level data validation for columns in excel or Google spreadsheets?

I want one column one to contain any one of the below value:

    Fruit
    Veggie

Based on the value selected on first column, the 2nd column should be one of these below:

    1) Apple, Orange or Banana if Fruit is chosen
    2) Carrot, Potato or Beans if Veggie is chosen

Ideally Carrot should not be listed in the dropdown if I have Fruit in column one. That's the ultimate criteria. Based on this I will expand my actual data contents. I'd be more grateful for you people.

    Thanks in advance, Cheers!

    Re: 2 level Data Validation

Here is a simple example to demonstrate dependant Data Validation lists. The second file is a little more complicated but the lists are dynamic. Add a header and it is added to the First choice. Add choices under the headings and they are added to the proper drop down lists.
