    Glitch with the Minimize/Maximize/Close buttons

This is a bit of a weird one (I'm guessing some kind of file corruption) so I'll do my best to explain...

    Excel 2007 / .xlsm workbook

On all worksheets in my workbook, if I hover the mouse over the column headers (or, if they're hidden, the screen space where the column headers would be) directly below the Minimize/Maximize/Close buttons, then each of the buttons will flash rapidly.

Here is a partly mocked up example...

    Excel_Glitch01.jpg

The column headers are hidden here, but imagine they are there and the cursor is over them, the same effect occurs.

If the cursor is then moved across slightly, to be vertically underneath one of the other buttons, then that one will flash rapidly instead. It's not a 'uniform' flash either, it's a rapid, intermittent, glitch type flash. It's like Excel thinks the buttons are positioned (where the column headers are) in that screen space. The buttons themselves in the top corner work fine.

It is a macro enabled workbook but I'm not really doing anything remotely complex to cause this. In fact, it seems to affect the whole application as I can open some other non-related workbooks and get the same phenomenon.

Has anyone experienced this before? Hopefully some ideas to save me rebuilding the file from scratch.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Glitch with the Minimize/Maximize/Close buttons

I thought this might draw a blank given how odd it is.

Further investigation seems to indicate that it's actually a problem with Excel rather that a specific file. I removed all auto-shapes from the file, saved it, then upon reopening the file the issue no longer seemed to occur. However, it seems to occur on any file that contains an auto-shape or image.

I have uploaded a short screen capture to show it happening to see if anyone recognizes the issue, or what might have caused it. This is performed in a new unsaved workbook.

From 01-05 seconds you can see the cursor hovering over the column headers and minimize/maximize/close buttons - all appears as normal.

At 09-10 seconds I insert an auto-shape and then repeat the cursor hovering.

From 11:14 seconds you can see the issue happening - note how the minimize/maximize/close buttons light up and flicker when the cursor is over the column headers directly below each button.

In the workbook I originally noticed the problem, I did have macros to change the visible property of 'grouped' shapes, could that have somehow caused this issue as it seems to only happen with inserted objects? Or could I have somehow altered a property at application.object level?

No problems are found when I run the Office diagnostics, so am I faced with a fresh install of Excel?

    Any comments welcome.
