    force format date

    Hi
    please help me format the value in the cell into date.

    You need to enter

    31/10/2012

    or whatever your region settings are for the d/m/y separators

    and you must know if Excel treat your date as text string (aligning automatically to left) or real date (aligning automatically to right side) you must get rid of manual alignment - now u set center so u dont know if Excel changed format in this cell. Someone more experienced should confirm that.

    Just to be clear the original workbook does have B1 set to a date format so the only thing necessary is to enter the date with the correct separators that are identified in your regional settings. See post #2

    Since the cell is formatted correctly there's no need to use a string slicing helper column just to coerce a date number from the string.

    Using your sample, all that was required was to select the column where the date is and use Find and Select, Replace, Find What: - Replace with: / and the date was correctly converted into an Excel date.

    boopathiraja method worked for me. Strangely I couldn't do the find & replace method or any other.
