    basic questionnaire results

    hello all,
    new user here!
Hoping someone could help me with (I think!) a very easy excel question!
I need to collate the results of a small sample questionnaire (under 50 people). It contains three questions that have mulitple answers,
    an example,

what would you like to see in the gallery?

research facilities? improved toilets? meeting spaces? et cetera.

the participants were able to 'tick' as many boxes as they wanted.

can someone please assist me in working out how I should be laying this data out so that its easy to understand, easy to add more results (as more questionnaires are completed) and the various answers are totalled for analysis?

    many thanks,

    Ed

    Re: basic questionnaire results

    Hi,

    You have a choice

Either a simple matrix with a row for each person and columns for

    Q1 Response 1 enter "Y" if selected
    Q1 Response 2 ditto
    Q1 Response 3 ditto
    Q2 Response 1 etc..
    Q2 Response 2
    ...etc

Then above every column you could use a COUNTIF() formula to count the number of "Y"s

A smarter way which would allow you a lot more functionality for comparison purposes would be a table with columns for

    Person 'name
    Question Number, 1, 2 or 3
    Response Number, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...etc

so if a person gave say 3 responses to Question 2 their name and Q2 would appear on three separate rows with the response numbers in the 3rd column.
With a table like this you can then use a Pivot Table to analyse the data.
