    Excel seating plan help

I am trying to create an automatic seating plan, with a child being represented with c, and adult with an a for example. I have colored in cells to represent seats. But these are the things i'm trying to get the system to do -
    a) find an empty seat in the layout to place the representation i.e c for child in the cell (based off of the seating layout)
b)if the seat is full to place the person in an empty cell (based off of the seating layout)
c)check for availability (to warn me that there are no seats available.)

extra information- i'm 17 so a slower pace would be preferably due to the lack of experience. Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum!

Can you post the spreadsheet that you've got?

As it stands, my advice is going to be pretty high-level and nonspecific, and basically boil down to "first, build a table."
