Hello - Urgent help, simple formula error: preserving links an drop downs in spreadsheets

    Hello,

I am having an issue with linking and creating drop down lists in excel after i save and re-enter the document. I would really appreciate some feedback on what I'm doing wrong so hopefully I can help others when they have the same issue.

Spreadsheet file 1: category 1: 10 tabs for each work item that fall in this category (THERE ARE 10 CATEGORIES, SO BASICALLY 10 SPREADSHEETS TO BUILD EACH CATEGORY'S WORK ITEM'S COST)
Spreadsheet file 2: summary page that contains each category's unit cost summarized on one page
Spreadsheet file 3: a template to build unit cost for new projects. (this is where the problem is, please read below)

Spreadsheet 3 contains a drop down list of items for each category so that one can select an item and have the unit cost, unit measurement and item number populate automatically. Remember this is linked to spreadsheet 2 which links to 1.

THE PROBLEM: ONCE I SAVE AND RE-ENTER THE SPREADSHEET, EXCEL ASKS ME IF I WANT TO UPDATE LINKS OR NOT AND CONTINUE. EITHER WAY THE DROP DOWN LIST IS LOST WITH THE FORMULAS AND I CANNOT PRESERVE THEM. Do i need to return to spreadsheet 1 or 2 and do something?

Please provide advice and thank you in advance.

Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.

Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

(This thread should receive no further responses until this moderation request is fulfilled, as per Forum Rule 7)
