How to protect worksheet against inserting new rows

    Hi folks,

I hope somebody smarter than me can help with my query.

I'm attempting to protect a worksheet to prevent users from inserting new rows, but I want to allow all other editing. However, when I protect the worksheet and then attempt to edit cells, I get a notification informing me that the sheet is read only and that I must unprotect it.

Does anybody what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks!!!!
    C

    Hi,

When you protect the sheet tick the 'Insert Rows' in the '...allow users to' area.

    Thanks Richard Butterfly,

But doesn't this function allow me to insert rows? I wish to stop users inserting rows, but allow them to do everything else.

    Thanks,
    C

Sorry, I had it the wrong way round.

Unlock all the cells that you want users to be allowed to edit and then protect the sheet.
By default all cells are locked but this only comes into play when you protect the sheet.
