Drop down control multiple note sections

I have an excel sheet that has 6 options available from a drop down. The drop down selections are day 1,2,3...etc. For each day we have three cells that are utilized for notes. How could I setup the drop down so that the notes change in the three cells when you select the certain day from the drop down? For example when I select day 1, enter my notes in the three boxes and then select day two from the drop down I want the three note sections to change to my day two notes.

To be clear the three notes sections would only reflect the data from the day selected from the drop box.

Re: Drop down control multiple note sections

You want to use a drop down menu as input?

If so, to my opinion, it can't be done like that.

you could use a dropdownmenu to fill the data in a range, depending on the choise you make in the drop down menu.
Notice my main language is not English.

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.

I don't know that we are saying the same thing. Cells A12, A16 and A22 are the three cells that I input notes into. I have to take notes for six days in a row. I want to have a drop down to control the notes in these cells from each day. For instance if I select from the drop down day 2 I want it to populate the notes I inputted into A12, A16 and A22 for day 2.

Attached is an example. My drop down is in cell B1. I want to be able to input notes in A12, A16 and A22 and the notes be tied to the drop down selections. So for instance if I have DRM 1 selected from the drop down I want the notes to reflect accordingly. If I select DRM 2 from my drop down I want A12, A16 and A22 to reflect the notes from DRM 2. "Expected Results":

Give an example in each comment area of what you might expect to appear for one of the choices.

I updated the attached example with an example of what the output would look like in each of the three comment sections. It would all be text based. Example.xlsx

Yes, so the notes inputted into A12, A16 and A22 would stay together and would correspond to the drop down in B1. The idea would be to use the drop down in B1 to select which meeting your in and then input the notes into the three comment sections. When you go to the next meeting you would then select the next option in the drop down which would provide you a blank slate in the three notes sections. Once completed with all meetings you could then review the notes from each one by selecting the meeting from the drop down.

Here is your file back with lists on Sheet2. These lists are named and can be seen in the Name Manager.

I only filled in the "data" that you gave but you can fill in as you require for the other lists that I have prepared for filling in and naming. (I haven't created all the names)

The formulae in the comment areas are shown to the right of the areas.

Re: Drop down control multiple note sections

Thanks and well done. I apologize by bothering you again but I am not sure that I completely understand how you have gotten this to work. I see the formulas in each of the three comment sections as well as the corresponding commentary in the second sheet. But how exactly did you get them to link?

Re: Drop down control multiple note sections

If you look in the Name Manager you will see that the names are LIC, LIC_1, LIC_2. The - in the titles on sheet2 are being replaced by the underscore when the name is created by selecting the title and the text under it then clicking on the Formula tab, Create from Selection and choose Top row. The name with its definition will be created for you.

The formulae that I show to the right of the 3 text areas are in those areas. If you click on the Formulas tab then click on Show Formulas you will see the formulas in the cells. The basic meaning of the formulae is INDIRECT and the cell contents of B1 and append to that a - and a number. This will match a name in the Name Manager. The INDIRECT function, says to take the value of B1 and returns a reference specified by the text string in B1. This results in having the contents of B1 (text) added to what is in "" marks and the whole thing becomes a reference which in this case is a name that is in the Name Manager which in turn returns the text that is in the Name's definition.

The links are maintained by each formula having the B1 in them. The rest gets the "sub" parts to append to the B1 value. This is in the 3 cells so they all update together. When the value in B1 is changed to one of the other choices, the formula picks that value and adds the number to it. That is why I created the titles for you so that you can add your text under them and then use the Create from Selection to create the required names for all this to work.

Give it a try and if you run into difficulty, post your workbook with what doesn't work and I or someone else will jump in and try to point out where you went wrong.

I hope that this explanation is a little more clear than thick mud.
