    Hi Paul,

There could be several reasons for slowness :
    1) Check whether you have written anything On Workbook Open Event, which is causing delay in file opening.
    2) Check whether there are any recalculation of formula on any worksheet or references to any external workbook.
    3) It could also be related to LOW PC configuration.

    Array formulas
    Ranges whole rows/columns
    Conditional format.
    Objects

These things also slow down your file.

Re: Xlsm ---slow on opening !!!---plz fix

I also had this problem of slow opening of an Excel spreadsheet and also a very slow save. The macro speed seems normal.

My file size indicated the spreadsheet was 15 mb but the spreadsheet contained no sizeable quantity of data/information and the macros I implemented were what I'd call typical for what I do. What I found was that despite the lack of data, the sheets contained huge amounts of formatted information that happened as a result of an error on a "Do" loop that I had incorporated into one of the macros when I was originally preparing the spreadsheet.

To fix this, I went to the final row of data for each page, selected the entire row, scrolled down to the last row of the spread sheet, selected that entire row, and with my cursor in the rows between the two rows I hit the right mouse button, selected delete, received a message that the system was going to eliminate a large amount of data, hit ok and my problem disappeared.

The bottom line....after completing this action, my spreadsheet reduced from 15mb to .3mb and saves so fast I can hardly see it happen.

    Hi Paul,

One should always do the formatting while execution of code. Never pre-format the range of cells in excel which increases file size and slowness.

Re: Xlsm ---slow on opening !!!---plz fix

    Pareshj,
I have a similar problem and your reply has me wondering if there is an alternate solution. I build a spreadsheet that is used so summarize account status. Each manager sends their file to the senior manager weekly and he combines them into a single workbook. Each worksheet has several cells using conditional formatting to show status, for example: Health = green, Caution = Yellow and Critical = Red. When all worksheets are compiled there are approximately 50 sheets and the files has grown to 12 Mb. Is there another way to accomplish this and reduce the file size?

    Thanks
