Excel 2013 ActiveX control Webbrowser

I am taking an online course developing data visualization techniques (Dashboards). The course does not require Excel 2013 Pro Plus, but that is what I have. A common technique seems to be entering a map object from a Web source into a Dashboard using the ActiveX control Webbrowser, but I cannot do this.

I have read an article that in Excel 2013 that this ActiveX control was eliminated do to security concerns. Is there another option now or is this type of information display just taboo?

Excel 2013 has the concept of apps, which are essentially sandboxed webpages - I suspect you can do what you need through this; though you'll need some javascript - they are much more powerful and offer better support than an in-built webbrowser control.

I believe there's a bing map app that you can add to your spreadsheet that will map locations
