Size of excel changes when clicking toolbar, in stead of minimizing?

    Hi all,

A short question which I hope someone can help me with. I use excel often for my job and want to change the following:
When I use excel and want to change to another program/e-mail/etc., I want it to minimize when I click the excel icon on the toolbar so I can go to another program directly. However, unlike my home computer, my work computer changes the size of excel when I click the toolbar icon, instead of minimizing it to the toolbar (so it stays the "dominant" program on my screen, just a smaller size). I hope this is clear, I find it hard to explain. Can I solve this somehow? Many thanks in advance!

    Best,
    Maxime

Sounds like you are pressing the restore rather than the minimize button.

If you are clicking the correct button do you have an code/addins that would override your choice of window state?
Can you minimize excel by clicking the icon in the startbar?
    Cheers

    Hi Andy and Prashr,

Thank you for your quick response. Unfortunately I cannot post a screenshot due to company regulations.
Andy, it does minimize when I click the "minimize" button on the top right of the excel screen. What I mean, and should have noted, is that it does not minimize when I click the excel icon on the toolbar. So, when I am working in excel and want to go to another program, I click the excel icon on my toolbar, after which it adjusts the size of the excel but stays the dominant program on my screen, in stead of minimizing like other programs do when I click the icon on the toolbar. Does this give more clarity? Thank you, again.

Which version of Excel and Windows are you using?

What toolbar are you refering to?

If I click the excel icon (top left of application) then I get a contextual menu which allows minimize of application.

If I click the excel icon (top left of workbook) then I get a contextual menu which allows minimize of workbook within application. Application remains unchanged.

    Hi Andy,

I am refering to the Windows Toolbar at the bottom of my screen. With any other program, I can click the icon on the toolbar to open the program and click it again to minimize it. With Excel, I can click the icon to open my (active) excel worksheet, but if I click it again it just adjusts size and does not minimize. I'm sorry if my request is unclear.. I have tried to google it but not sure how to formulate in order to get a useful result.
