Hello. I'd like to know how can I merge cells in the same row so when I sort a column (A>Z for example) the contents of the row near the selected one change position as well. I paste a picture for example.
Hello. I'd like to know how can I merge cells in the same row so when I sort a column (A>Z for example) the contents of the row near the selected one change position as well. I paste a picture for example.
You don't need to merge them. Just highlight both rows, click custom sort, and sort by the row you want.
Ok, let me explain it better. In the first cell I have a song's name. The second cell in the same row is the artist's name and the third is the note. What I want is to make links between the rows so when I sort each column separately the contents of the rows next to the sorted one change sorting as well. For example I want to sort the third column which is the note so I have Am, Bm, C etc. and I want column A and B go along. I hope I explained it well, sory for any mistakes, not my language.
HI,
Provide a workbook showing before and after stating your requirement manually.
Punnam
Click on A3 (first non-merged cell in col. A)--> Sort & Filter --> Custom Sort --> Sort By --> (ColumnC) [When your first two rows are merged] --> OK
I think, this will do what you are trying to achieve.

Treat people the way you want to be treated. Talk to people the way you want to be talked to.
Respect is earned NOT given.
It prompts a message "This operation requires the merged cells to be identically sized". I want to sort them in a way web sites give the option to. Sort list by artist name, or sort by song name, or sort by key etc. and all the columns switch contents. Like the rows are linked between them.
I don't want "sort by" be a button I just want when I sort each column the 2 rows next to it change as well automatically.
Like I said, if you highlight all three rows, it will happen. Whichever rows you highlight will move with whichever row you sort.
and a not asked advice.
Don't work with merged cells, you get in trouble with it sooner or later.
Notice my main language is not English.
I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.

I agree with oeldere...merged cells cause nothing but trouble - avoid them if at all possible. If you highlight the entire range, data on a row stays togethere when sorting, you dont need to merge
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
