Date format issues in Excel 2013

Hi,

This particular problem has been troubling me for some time:

*When I set a cell to date format mm/dd/yy either in the 'date' or custom section of the formatting, the cell will only recognize my input as a date IF I enter it as dd/mm/yy.
*so for example:

cell format = "3/14/12"
I input 4/23/14 and the cell sees it as text
I input it as 23/4/14 and the cell sees it as a date an converts it to be displayed as 4/23/14

It would be ideal to just be able to think of dates just as mm/dd/yy

Hi,

You are right, the ideal date formatting would be mm/dd/yy, however, like you have mentioned when you input 4/23/14 in a cell after formatting the cell into date format (mm/dd/yy) & the cell sees it as text, looks strange. This should infact be captured as date & it does in my system (I use excel 2013).
