    Increment number stored as text

    Hi everyone,

I need to upload a lot of data and therefore the numbering needs to be in the following format:
    18 digits, starting from 000000000000700000 + 1
To see the zero's I need to put a ' in front of the number and it won't increase by pulling it down (it gives met the number without zero's but that's not the purpose)

    18digits.PNG

Does anyone can help me by formatting the cell in a particular way or giving me a formula so the zero's remain and my number is increasing?

    Thanks.

Maybe something like this formula, copied down:

Is that something you can work with?

Couldn't you just do a custom format, Format Cells>Custom>000000000000000000

Re: Increment number stored as text

If you start off with the 18 digit number formatted as text without using the ' , that you want as a starter in A1 and want to increment this number by 1 as you go down column A this will work.

    Formula: copy to clipboard

Re: Increment number stored as text

Formatting is just a presentation and not the actual contents of the cell. Change the formatting and the contents may change in a manner that you don't want.

Use whatever works the best for you.
