Creating a list with live numbering

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could offer a solution to what might appear to be a simple issues but it's one that's causing me some frustration.

In a nutshell i have a spreadsheet set up in the following way;

What i'm trying to replicate in column A is similar to the live bullet point numbering that can be found in Word documents where if a line is deleted the section numbering (think bullet points in Word) automatically fall into line and update i.e what was 1.4 automatically becomes 1.3 and so on.

So far i've tried the simple formula of = cell above +0.1 which works fine until i have to remove lines.

I'm sorry if this is a simple task.

It would be better to post a sample workbook rather than a picture of one. In general terms, you could use a term like MAX(A$1:A_cell_above)+0.1, but you also need to take account of the change in Section number.
