excel file size increases on its own

    Hi,

I am working with an excel file that increases after working with the file. The file has increased from 7 Mb to 20 Mb over time even though minimal additional data was added.

Could it be due to the use of too many tab sheets? (currently there are approximately 15 tabs with data)

Any ideas on why this is happening or suggestions on how to manage this file size would be appreciated?

    Thanks!

More likely that you have excessive "blank" rows in each or all of the sheets.

If you press Ctrl-End on each sheet, which cell is selected? If it is way beyond the data, then you need to delete columns to the right of each data area and rows below the data area. You MUST use the Delete icon on the ribbon, not just the delete key.

You may have selected whole columns or rows when applying formatting or conditional formatting. Or you may use formulae to prepare rows for input. For example,
    Formula: copy to clipboard
    =IF(A2="","", ... some formula ...)

    Have a read here:

I think typically, the "usedrange" on your spreadsheets may have increased past where it was originally.
