Data Validation Lists

Hello I am working on Excel 2013,

I have created (or to be more accurate every time I re-open the file I need to recreate) two data lists.

The permitted values of these two data lists are in an adjacent worksheet

However, whenever I closed the file and re-open it, both of the data lists 'disappear'

Both of the data lists are in column O

Any ideas why and how I can alleviate the problem?

Hi,

Are there any macros in the workbook which may be deleting the lists.

Do the lists consist of constant values that you've manually typed in or are the formulae which might be changing.

Otherwise it's difficult to say without seeing the workbook. Are you able to share it with us?

No VBA code and no formulas related to the Data list data;
The data lists are at worksheet 10_Year and at cell N9 and N11

The data list data come from worksheet 'DO NOT DELETE'

Whenever I closed the file and re-open it the data lists 'disappear'

Your problem stems I suspect from the fact that when you create the validation list you are using the range addresses A3:A5 & C3:C4 on the Do Not Delete sheet.
With Data Validation you can only use range addresses if the lists are on the same sheet as the data validation. If they are on another sheet then you will need to give the lists a range name and use that. For example name A3:A5 say "Period" and then in the Data Validation List box enter '=Period' (without the ' )

I cannot reproduce your problem.

If you are supposed to have drop down lists in 10Year!O9 and 10Year!O11, they have not been defined in Data Validation.

It would appear that you are not saving the workbook.

Your profile indicates Excel 2010, if you use the file format xlsx you won't run into the restriction that Richard Buttrey brings up.
