Unhappy Conditional Formatting To Reference a String in a Column and Applied to another Column

    Dear Group,

I am a new member. I joined to ask this question about conditional formatting. Please pardon any novice behavior on my part.

    Goal:

If a string value appears anywhere column A, such as "Home",

Highlight whatever is in the respective cell within the target column of the conditional format. Just the one which is in the same row containing "Home"

    Here is a crude diagram:

    COL A COL B

X_______________not highlighted because COL A not containing HOME
    HOME____________highlighted using conditional formatting
X_______________not highlighted because COL A not containing HOME

Tried this with countif, and if, to no avail. The best I could get it to do is highlight all the cells, not just the "target" cell.

I would be so thankful for help with this specific case because I have worked the internet with 0 results for this. Please, experts, any help is appreciated.

    Conditional formatting with a formula

    In B1 apply this rule:
    =A1="HOME"

Apply rule to range (eg, B1:B100)

That should do it. (Well, it's not case sensitive).

    See attached.

    EDIT:
Looks like TMS interpreted the premise differently than me? Well the basic principle is the same, although looking at what TMS did, that's more slick than mine.

Adding Ben's suggestion for column B but still using an external cell for the string.

You all are so enthusiastic and helpful. Please accept my sincerest gratitude for your time and effort. I really wish to thank you, and will dive into the multiple assistance replies here. Thanks again!!

ben_hensel had the most aligned answer with what I am searching for.

That is, if Home is in column A, and any other value in column B, highlight column B. In other words, column B might not have home in it but if A does I am trying to highlight column B. This is perfect, and thank you all.
